WE ARE SO PROUD TO BE HEALTHY EATERS IN SCOIL BHRÍDE!!!
One in four children in Ireland are either overweight or obese. To help combat this, Scoil Bhríde encourages all pupils to pursue a healthy lifestyle which involves making healthy choices for school snacks and lunch & to keep anything not on the list below for home. We would appreciate the support of all parents and guardians in helping us to maintain healthy eating in school.
Portion Size: Only give your children what they will eat i.e. suitable portion sizes and food they like. This allows children to eat everything in the time allocated and avoids waste. The children bring home all uneaten food & wrappers. This way you will know what your child has eaten.
Recycling: Please use recyclable materials such as lunch boxes (those with separate compartments are a recommended) and plastic bottles to cut down on waste.A strong lunch box (not a zipped lunch bag) that will fit into a school bag and can be opened easily is recommended as food lying in school bags can be squashed.
Please note that we have children in the school with nut allergies. For health and safety reasons we do not allow nuts or products containing nuts or nut oils –these include Nutella and other chocolate spreads, peanut butter and cereal bars or any products with nut oil or nut traces.
FRESH, UNPROCESSED FOOD IS THE BEST CHOICE. READING LABELS ON FOOD ITEMS CAN HELP TO MAKE HEALTHIER CHOICES
TO REINFORCE THE IMPORTANCE OF AND TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE EFFORT CHILDREN MAKE, WE WILL PRAISE, GIVE STICKERS & CERTIFICATES & POST PHOTOS OF HEALTHY LUNCHES ON THE WEBSITE. INDIVIDUAL CHILDREN/CLASSES MAY BE MENTIONED & PRAISED AT ASSEMBLY & REWARDED.
